Short version: there is no account, we receive nothing you say, and your conversation is never written to your phone's storage. Translating a sentence happens on the device. The two parts that can involve someone else — your phone's speech recognition, and the one-time model download — are named plainly below rather than hidden behind "third-party services".
Directly, nothing. JumboChat has no account system and no backend of ours. We do not ask for your name, phone number, contacts or location, and we have added no analytics or advertising software of our own.
The only way we receive anything from you is if you choose to email us — see If you email support below.
When you hold a microphone button the app records audio and converts it to text. By default it uses the speech recognition built into your phone.
iOSApple's Speech Recognition. Depending on your device, language and settings, Apple may process that audio on its servers rather than on the phone. Apple's handling of it is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.
AndroidYour device's speech service, usually Google's, which may likewise process audio on Google's servers.
AndroidIf you would rather no audio left the device, open Offline & voice in the app menu and switch speech recognition to the on-device mode. It downloads a small recognition model once, then transcribes locally.
Either way, we never receive the audio and we do not store it.
Translation uses Google ML Kit on-device translation. The first time you use a language, the app downloads that language's model from Google's servers — Google receives that download request and, as with any download, your IP address. This happens once per language.
After that, translating a sentence happens entirely on your phone and needs no connection. The sentence itself is not sent anywhere.
The ML Kit components may also report to Google about their own operation: performance and diagnostic data, how the translation feature is used, and an identifier for the device. That is Google's software behaving as it is built to. Google declares this data as not linked to your identity and not used for tracking, and it does not include what you translate.
Spoken playback uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your phone, provided by Apple or Google. Which voices exist, and whether a voice is generated on the device, follows your phone's settings rather than ours.
Completed turns stay on screen so you can scroll back, replay or copy them. They are held in the app's memory only — not written to your phone's storage, and never uploaded.
Clear conversation in the app menu removes them immediately, and closing the app clears them too. There is no cloud history and no way for us to retrieve a past conversation, because we never had one.
Two things: your settings — chosen languages, theme, speech mode — and any language or recognition models you have downloaded. Both live on your phone.
Deleting the app removes them. Individual language models can also be removed from Offline & voice.
JumboChat asks for the microphone and, on iOS, speech recognition — only at the moment you first hold a button to speak. Declining is a normal way to use the app: typed translation works with no permission granted at all.
iOSSettings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition.
AndroidSettings → Apps → JumboChat → Permissions.
Revoking a permission takes effect immediately, and nothing stops working except speaking into the app.
Writing to support@jumbochat.io means we receive your email address, your message, and anything you attach — often a device model and OS version, because we ask for them.
We use it to answer you and to fix what you reported. We keep it no longer than we need for that, we do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share it.
JumboChat is a general-purpose translator and is not directed at children. It has no account, no profile and no social features, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
If the app's handling of data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
JumboChat is published by Deep Fried Mobile Inc. Questions about this policy, or a request about your data, go to support@jumbochat.io and a person will answer.
